John and I met at the end of 2007 on a job at City Stages. I was working as a camera assistant and he was mixing sound. The commercial was for minimally invasive back surgery and there were lots of naked old people. It really set the mood. I noticed him looking at me many times during the day… Every time I peered around the background to get a look at him, he was already looking my way! I quickly had to pretend I was looking at something else. Awwwwkward. At lunch I was conversing with another girl and John, eavesdropping, continually interrupted our conversation to ask me further details about myself. At the end of the day, I was finishing up my camera reports when John came over to ask if he could “Copy my Homework” and get my camera report details for his sound reports. I let him, of course, and while he was there I asked him if he would like to come to my friend’s birthday party that evening. He said he would and I gave him the address. When I got home I found out that the bowling alley where the party was to be had booked an event and we needed to change venues. I didn’t have John’s phone number so I called the producer from our job and pretended that I had borrowed something from John on set and needed his number so that I could return it. He gave it to me and I was able to call him and tell him where to go. He was bewildered by how I had gotten his number, but said he would be there. I stared at the door all night. Later I learned that it is “classic John” to fall asleep after work and miss social engagements. I received a text from him late the next day apologizing and requesting a private camera/sound party another time. Being the holiday season, we were both very busy and, although we talked a lot on the phone, didn’t get around to having our first date until about twenty days later… And our second date the next day… and our third the day after that… and then I met his family… and he met mine on Christmas (5th date)… and we haven’t been apart since. :) Best Christmas Present Ever.
